1. Overview

Glossary Configuration is where you manage the two labels every glossary term uses to stay organised: its category and its classification. Setting these up here means that when someone creates a term in the Business Glossary, they choose a category and a classification from the ready-made lists you maintain — keeping every term consistent.

The page has two tabs — Category and Classification — and both work the same way: a simple list you can add to, edit, and tidy up.

What you can do here

  • See all your categories and classifications, with who changed each one and when.
  • Add a new category or classification.
  • Edit an existing one's name or description.
  • Delete one you no longer need.

WHERE TO FIND IT — Glossary Configuration lives under Governance → Configuration → Glossary Configuration, on a page titled Configuration with two tabs: Category and Classification.

2. Key Concept: Two Lists That Organise Your Glossary

Categories and classifications are the two ways glossary terms are grouped and labelled:

ListWhat it's for
CategoryThe broad area a term belongs to — a way of grouping related terms together.
ClassificationHow a term is classified — for example, its sensitivity or handling.

Every business term picks one category and one classification from these lists. That's why keeping the lists clear and well-named here pays off across the whole glossary: the choices a term offers are exactly the entries you set up on this page.

CONFIGURE FIRST, THEN USE — A category or classification has to exist here before anyone can assign it to a term. If a term needs a grouping that isn't in the list yet, add it here first.

3. Finding Your Way Around

Go to Governance → Configuration → Glossary Configuration. At the top of the page are two tabs:

  • Category — the list of categories (shown first).
  • Classification — the list of classifications.

Click a tab to switch between the two lists. Everything below works the same on either tab, so the rest of this guide describes them together.

4. Reading the List

Each tab shows a table of entries, one row each, sorted by name.

ColumnWhat it shows
ActionThe Delete button for the entry (shown if you have permission to delete).
NameThe name of the category or classification. You can edit this directly.
DescriptionA short explanation of what it's for. You can edit this directly.
Updated ByWho last changed the entry.
Updated DateWhen it was last changed.

The Name and Description are editable right in the table; Updated By and Updated Date are filled in for you and can't be edited.

5. Adding a Category or Classification

Steps

  1. Open the tab you want — Category or Classification.
  2. Click the floating add button (the round + button). This is available if you have permission to create.
  3. In the Add New Category (or Add New Classification) dialog, enter a Name — this is required — and a Description.
  4. Click Save.
  5. You'll see a confirmation, and the new entry appears in the list.

NAME IS REQUIRED — An entry can't be saved without a name. The description is optional but recommended, since it's what helps others pick the right category or classification when they create a term.

6. Editing an Entry

To change an entry, edit its Name or Description directly in the table — click into the cell and type. Your change is saved automatically a moment after you make it; there's no separate save step.

The Updated By and Updated Date columns refresh on their own to record who made the change and when.

EDITS SAVE THEMSELVES — Because changes save as you type, take care when editing an entry that's already in use — the new name and description apply everywhere that category or classification is used.

7. Deleting an Entry

To remove an entry, click the Delete button in its Action column (shown only if you have permission to delete), then confirm when asked.

CHECK BEFORE DELETING — Deleting a category or classification removes it from the list for everyone. Before removing one, make sure no glossary terms still rely on it, so terms don't lose their grouping.
